he seven of pentacles typically has to do with perseverance and hard work. also patience. long-term investment/trust. upright/standard being the usual 'work hard and reap your rewards' stance, maintain diligence even in the face of adversity. a manifestation of desired results realized OR the/a big break/rest after doing much of the needed tilling. the 'or' is big because this implies the person might not actually see what they've wanted come to fruition. and on that note, it's also a big 'or' because the other part of that 'or' is that this 'pause' in the person's work suggests a break but whether or not they take it can/will have longterm effects on what they are aiming to achieve. inverted: the reevaluation of things after a long "work day" so to speak. the hypothetical that there is a better way to pursue these things that require the same level of patience and hard work and perseverance while re-conceptualizing method and end-goal. and so the question: should they? though inverted in a reading is traditionally 'guidance' and so already suggesting yes they should reconsider. some key words are of course the flip of the upright -- impatience, frustration, lack of fulfillment, wasted effort. on that note, also this: the hard work amounting to getting what one 'wants' but it not being what one actually wanted at all. which is just, you know. par for the course here, but. card accurate too.
six of pentacles

he six of pentacles (upright) has to do with giving and receiving, generosity, and a sense of charity -- the positives of these things. while i don't so much see 'charity' in kamui's character, the presence of giving and receiving is inarguable. he does tend to be on the 'receiving' end more in terms of concrete instances whether it is being protected or educated or what-have-you. what kamui gives is, plainly, himself. not the carbon-copy role as his mother, but the parallels are still there and important both in showing how they are different as much as those similarities. kamui is from manga canon (closes my eyes) but i take into consideration every iteration of X and the way the anime has him form a perfect sphere for a kekkai sticks out. still, i don't think kamui is charitable, or selfless. if he was, he would relinquish fuuma. but he doesn't and though we see him wavering nearer where canon cuts off, nothing can be confirmed at this point. something to explore, ideally. inverted is exactly that and takes the concept of, for example, generosity or giving/receiving as a possible blindspot for being manipulated or navigated around or changed. it can also be an abuse of power, conscious or unconscious (imo this tracks for kamui's wish itself which is very much a conscious choice and can be read as an abuse of power if he is indeed the 'only' one who can change things by realizing his 'true' wish, but it's complicated and obviously not as clean-cut as it would be if applying this to something more Normal. no such thing exists in x lbr!)
six & seven of pentacles
T
he six and seven of pentacles can represent balance. this goes how you'd expect, more or less: a balance between hard work and generosity, a positive understanding of resources and not over-extending oneself, and/or the act of reaching outside one oneself for what one lacks and/or is incapable of. in this sense, it's basically about mutuality (which does not necessarily mean equality), enough that the resilience of a reciprocal nature leads them to overcoming obstacles in that relationship. more transactional readings of this can just be the 1+1=2 of "you get what you give" (providing what needs providing, supporting what needs supporting all with the perspective that hard work and investment will render the payout desired.) romantic readings use the cores of the respective pentacles as the basis of the relationship, again the mutual connection built and elaborated on with the aforementioned hard work and perseverance and a generosity of heart but also understanding. the forming of a kind of nonverbal language of 'needs' and 'fulfills need' that can go both ways and simultaneously avoid stagnation masquerading as peace. inverted can, unsurprisingly, be devastating, the ultimate #miscommunication made worse by each individual's somewhat awareness that not all is right but either bullying through in the hopes things get better or withdrawing entirely. consider the 'if' of the 'break' of the seven of pentacles gone sideways, 'rest' becomes absence becomes desertion. consider the potentiality of the abuse of power of six and how in kamui's case clinging to his wish and even using subaru's validation as part of his reasoning, causes more harm than good on both the page of the world but also, the page specific to subaru and kamui. there are multiple times in which kamui seeks guidance/advice from subaru who is supportive and encouraging and a bit biased due to his own circumstances. it is up to kamui to decide but he 100% lets himself be influenced by others in greater and lesser degrees (despite his anime protag entrance of claiming otherwise that lasted literally 5 seconds but okay) and subaru is glaringly in the former category. i consider this an inversion of these specific cards for them, because in the end the result is negative. that kamui is wavering/rethinking things at the "end" of canon, feels a bit of too little too late and driven home with subaru's betrayal and concrete insistence kamui realize his 'true' wish. tl;dr they're a mess. which goes to show meaning well with your whole heart does not 1. absolve anyone of their sins, especially in x and can even make them worse; and 2. does not mean anything is going to work out. yay.
